bedrooms: our own personal art

 Hi my diva friends!

Lately, I have not been able to work on my blog because this diva was very busy with college move-in and my first week of classes. And let me just say... it's been a long week.

But we're back!

Today, I wanted to discuss an important topic to all college students: dorms. And, for my general audience, your bedrooms!

Everyone has their own style. Punk, gothic, preppy, alt, etc. You see this in what people wear, their hobbies, and the songs they listen to. And, most importantly - if you're granted access - you'll see it in their rooms.

In tune with assignments and doing well in your classes, I'd argue that your dorm/bedroom is the second most important thing in your day to day life. It's a place for you to express yourself, be yourself, and love yourself. It's safe, comforting, and your personal getaway. You need to love it and to feel like it is your own. So, that's where decorating comes in.

Personally, I treat my room/dorm as if it were my own mosaic. It's my space to do whatever I want and need to feel like me. Each year that I've been in college, I have experimented with decor and have added or taken away some things. Posters have come and gone. Photos either rearranged or tucked away (not all friendships last I fear). And trinkets that are continually added. In all of this, one main message stands: our rooms are for us, and we need to treat them that way.

There was a time where I struggled to be myself. I felt that in order to fit in, I couldn't dress the way I wanted, act the way I wanted, or even decorate my room the way I wanted. Then, when quarantine rolled around, I was 14 going on 15, and was stuck in my room all day. All. Day.

I remember distinctly thinking: my room doesn't feel like me.

I had spent such a long time stuffing away my possessions that showed who I was, that in the end, I had an empty room that could have belonged to any teenage girl at the time.

So, I made a change.

I couldn't afford new posters, so I drew them. I made butterfly garlands. Hung up my polaroids all over. Added trinkets to my shelves. I couldn't stop until I was assured that my space was my own.

Ever since then, there is never doubt that my space is mine. And, my dear divas, I encourage you to do the same.

No matter what style or hobbies you enjoy, your room should be for you - and no one else!

Now, I'd like to show my dorm room! It is not completely finished... some paper stars are in the works... but I think it's come together well so far.

The desk I am writing to you from!              My bed, and it's lofted so it's good for storage.

My "vanity" space. I'm obsessed with it!               This is a better look of my pictures.

I hope my advice finds you all well, and that you enjoyed my mini dorm tour. I have missed blogging, so look forward to some new additions on my page and for me to be more active!!!
